How it works
Auction Room is a property-picking game played on real New Zealand auctions. Sign in, get $10m of play money, and bid on what you think places will sell for. Call it well and the property's added to your portfolio, where it earns rent every week. The most valuable portfolio wins.
The basics
- Sign in and you start with $10m in cash.
- Browse upcoming auctions and, on any listing, bid what you think it'll sell for. Your bid is locked out of your cash until the auction settles.
- You don't have to bid on everything. If you think a place won't sell, pass in instead — see below.
- You can change your call any time up to 2 hours before the auction — swap a bid for a pass-in, or the other way round. Switching off a bid refunds it.
- When the result is confirmed, your bid settles automatically.
Winning and losing
| Result | You get |
|---|---|
| It passes in (doesn't sell) | Lose your bid |
| Sells, more than 20% off your bid | Bid back |
| Sells, within 20% | 1x + the property |
| Sells, within 15% | 1.25x + the property |
| Sells, within 10% | 1.5x + the property |
| Sells, within 5% | 1.75x + the property |
| Sells, within 1% | 2x + the property |
The multiplier pays out on your bid, so the closer your call the bigger the win. Land within 20% and the property joins your portfolio at its real sale price. The only way to lose money is a property that doesn't sell, so back the ones you're confident about.
Pass in — when you think it won't sell
Not every auction is worth a bid. If you reckon a property won't sell, hit Pass in. It's a free call: no money down and no reward either way. The listing turns red, drops out of your "Next" queue and your bids list, so you can move on to the ones you actually want to back. Changed your mind? Place a bid any time before lock and the pass-in clears.
Your portfolio
Every property you win is yours to keep. Hold it and it earns 5% of its value in rent each week. Need cash for a bigger bid? Mortgage a property for 80% of its value, it just stops paying rent until you repay the mortgage in full. Properties stay in your portfolio for good.
Leaderboard
You're ranked by portfolio value — the total worth of the properties you've won. Monthly boards track who's earning and calling most accurately right now, so there's always a fresh competition to win.
Running low
Out of cash? Mortgage a property to free some up. And if it all goes wrong, you can declare bankruptcy in settings to wipe the slate and start again with a fresh $10m (you keep your records, not your properties).
